My Philosophy

I believe mental health is fundamental to a life well-lived. Whether your goal for therapy is to improve your mood, gain a deeper understanding and acceptance of yourself, or have a space to explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment, I’m here to support you. I consider it a privilege to walk alongside you in this process.

Similar to our home, work, or social life, I believe our thoughts and feelings create a kind of environment in which we exist.  When we start to see our thoughts and feelings as the core of who we are and assign them moral value, we can end up feeling weighed down by guilt and frustration. But you are so much more than your thoughts and feelings.  Part of this therapeutic process may involve a re-centering or rebuilding of the sense of self.  Therapy is an opportunity to step back, reconnect with yourself, and maybe even rebuild a sense of who you are in a way that feels more true to you.

How I Can Help You

My role as a therapist is to support you in exploring your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors and their impact on your well-being. I seek to provide a space in which you can share openly, and where both of us may show up as our most authentic selves. My hope is that together we can identify goals and create step-by-step plans to work towards them that feel genuinely manageable.

Rather than standing by one therapeutic modality, my intent is to create a uniquely tailored treatment plan while establishing a personal connection. This is time you’re dedicating to yourself and your health, and I want to ensure we are making the most of it.

I will be curious about your experiences and perspectives and refrain from judgement. I will be open and humble, and work to collaborate with you on an evolving treatment plan. I believe in a strengths-based approach and hope you will come to feel empowered by our work. I also believe that therapy can be effective both in hard times and good times, and whether you feel you are deeply struggling and on the verge of a breakdown, or perhaps feeling directionless and unsure of how to move forward with your life, I am hopeful this space can help you grow closer to who you want to be.

JUST THE FACTS ABOUT

Alexandra "Xan" Prado, LSW

As a social worker, I will also be sure to learn about any external factors influencing your mental health, and I will work to connect you with other resources needed where I am able. I am experienced in working with individuals of various racial and economic backgrounds, and open to working with all.

I love doing this work because it creates powerful connections and allows individuals to understand themselves in new ways. Seeing transformation in real time feels so meaningful.

About Me:

I am especially passionate about LGBTQ+ advocacy and sexual health, and I am knowledgeable about challenges related to queer identity, as well as those involved in non-monogamous relationships.

I am also a visual artist who enjoys all manners of creative work and thinking outside of the box. In addition to my current modalities, I also intend to study art and play therapy (including with adults)!
